ABOUT US

Wolfenden Healing is primarily a Social Work counselling service, which is offered in a calming natural setting – ideal for individuals who find it too uncomfortable to sit in a clinical therapy room for counselling.

However, to enhance this service our Social Worker, Barbara, has further specialised in Equine Assisted Learning, which is available for application as a therapy tool to individuals who need this extra assistance to support the effectiveness of Social Work counselling. By no means is it necessary to work with horses, but is can be a valuable tool for some participants. Learning happens best when our mind and body are settled and able to focus. For some individuals this is where the horses help, as working with horses demands mindfulness and often helps to calm anxiety and racing minds.

The equine-assisted component of the program involves humans and horses as co-participants. The contribution of each is highly valued, and each must express consent in their own way to their involvement in any activity undertaken.

Humans and horses are both sentient beings who share space and respond to each other’s energy, while giving and receiving from each other. Given the right environment and opportunities, horses and humans can learn together through their interactions.

Both horses and humans make up the full team at Wolfenden Healing.
