VISION

Wolfenden Healing is pleased to offer equine-assisted Social Work to all people who may benefit from it. This is primarily a Social Work counselling service.

The founding vision of Wolfenden Healing, is to provide person-centered counselling in a natural environment. There is the option of enhancing sessions through the inclusion of horse interaction which can have calming effect on a person’s mental and physical being.

Wolfenden Healing evolved in response to Young Stroke Survivor needs and subsequent challenges, but caters to people with broader disability and neurodiversity. Barb wanted to create a service where participants could feel safe and understood while sharing their challenges and their goals for life, no matter how big or small.

Many people who with challenging chronic health, disability, neurodivergence or other forms of impairment can experience a sense of being dis-abled by societal conditions. They may benefit from support to manage the effects of these conditions within our society and to improve individual wellbeing. Strategies can be developed through Social Work counselling and/or experiential learning with a horse.

I find I relax by just getting out of the ‘burbs, into a bit of countryside, and being with my horse ~ Barb.

GOALS

The key goal is to offer social work counselling, supported by horse interaction where beneficial. Some people require a relaxed therapy space within a natural environment, in order attend counselling. Horses can additionally help with settling the mind and achieving focus for reflection and discussion of matters important to the participant.

It is through this process that we aim to assist people to participate within their community, build capacity, strengthen identity, make changes, and navigate life’s challenges with greater confidence. This may include recovery from an acute health episode, management of daily living with a chronic health condition, recovery of serious illness, or adjustments involving disability.

During time at Wolfenden Healing we hope each individual can effectively work on developing the skills/strategies required to maintain a sense of wellbeing and to enhance independence, despite any ongoing challenges they may experience.
